Trim-Rite foods has recently acquired a Pork Production Plant in Rantoul, Illinois. This new plant will be called Rantoul Foods. There are plans to upgrade a few things in the production line to provide a little more efficiency and better product. There is a need to upgrade some systems ... to upgrade the quality of the product. A little more power and equipment will be added. There are also plans to add more cooler space and additional freezer space in addition to adding five more shipping docks.
Kurt Irelan (construction manager) met with city officials, among them were Village Administrator Bruce Sandahl and Director of Public Works Greg Hazel. Hazel said the new owners are asking for a few minor alterations by the village, including modification of one of the service voltages. “But that's a minor aspect of their plans,” Hazel said.
It was announced in August that Trim-Rite, based in Carpentersville, had selected the Rantoul plant as its site for expansion. The company was considering, among other locations, a property in DeKalb. Trim-Rite states, “We are pleased to have this opportunity and are looking forward to being a productive member of the Rantoul community. It is our goal, with the addition of new equipment from Europe, to make this plant the finest and most modern hog processing facility in the United States. Utilizing the European process we will build ‘quality’ into every hog carcass we process.”
